Event raised $5,000
Mimi Ward, chairperson for the June 3 fund-raisers, was pleased with the turnout for the June 3 events since it rained last year. “It was a beautiful day for cyclists touring three perfect routes throughout Shelby County. We had 55 in Poker Pedal (for adults) and 49 in Pedal Party (for children and families). We had riders from Hawaii, Indianapolis, Champagne, Ill., along with many from Lexington’s Bluegrass Cycling Club and the Louisville Bike Club.,” she said, noting that many local cyclists also came to support Shelby Greenway Trails.
Both Parks Consultant Clay Cottongim and Ward thanked the participants as well as the sponsors: Shelbyville Chiropractic, Fit 4 Less, Associates in Pediatric Therapy and the Shelby Conservation Trust. Ward said a tentative date for next year is June 2, 2018, when, “We’re looking for an even bigger and better event!”
The second annual charitable event offers non-competitive bicycle rides throughout Shelby County. Funds raised support Phase 2 of the Greenway Trail along the banks of Clear Creek. Donations for the Trail can be sent to Parks Foundation, 715 Burks Branch Road, Shelbyville KY 40065.
